Abstract Archivo y memoria femenina (Archive and female memory) is a project designed to contribute the written voice of female artists to the eclectic space of art based on the interest and fascination that these testimonies have always aroused within us. This written voice bears witness to the existence and prestige earned by some of these artists in different periods and provides first-hand information about the thought-provoking artistic practices of the leading voices of male and female producers. Consequently, the three-part structure of this thesis enables us firstly to address the context of the absence of women in public spheres, to analyse the female stereotype and to dwell upon the forerunners who initiated the task of expressing themselves through written language and visual language. The second part, entitled Los textos de la mujeres artistas durante las primeras vanguardias (Writings by female artists during early avant-garde movements) is an anthology not yet published in Spanish of writings by female artists. Finally, we have created a section of bibliographical sources with a comprehensive list of the texts translated into Spanish. This anthology allows us to take a look at the types of texts whilst providing an insight into the ideas and concepts of 21 female artists from the early avant-garde movements of the 20th century: Maria Blanchard, Sonia Delaunay, Gabrièle Münter, Marianne von Werefkin, Käthe Kollwitz, Natalia Goncharova, Varvara Stepanova, Olga Rozanova, Nadezda Udaltsova, Alexandra Exter, Liubov Popova, Hannah Höch, Unica Zurn, Meret Oppenheim, Claude Cahun, Frida Kahlo, Leonora Carrington, Remedios Varo, Maruja Mallo, Georgia O´Keefe and Anni Albers.
