ARTISTIC POSSIBILITIES OF ELECTRONIC IMAGE: CHROMA-KEY Making an effort to reproduce a reality that is realer than proper reality, image Technologies make use of increasingly more and more sophisticated resources to elaborate and build an own language. It’s evident in the last thirty years, the evolution of applications that integrate chrona-key method as an element in addition to its discourse. This discourse, joined to the various means that use it (cinema, television, videoart) suppose a formal and expressive enlargement of audio-visual language. Carrying out a research about the different applications of chroma-key, trying to enquire into technology to see the needs that have carried the authors to choose it, hour they use and integrate it in their speech. We have noticed there are differences in the way these resources apply Cinema, Television and Videoart. In case of Cinema, we are interested on an imperceptible use of chroma-key in the decade of sixties. On Television we notice that a new manner of performance has been joined in the last twenty years: virtual scenery. Since its birth (decade of sixties) Videoart use chroma-key in a much more evident way, having priority experimental things in front of Cinema reality illusion. Starting from information processing revolution in the decade of nineties, we notice that a lot of artistic experiences are called “interactives”. Here we also find some examples of chroma-key uses that allow this interaction between the audience and the proper play. The aim of this investigation is after a formal analysis of these experiences with chroma-key, with the purpose of setting up an expressive use from this resource. We are interested in creating: On one side, a theoretical base to expound and systematize this use of chroma-key in the different applications looking at all those aspects, characteristics and elements that compose it, centring on Videoart land. On another side, there is an experimental practical and creative interest in relation to Videoart, using chroma-key to its creation, now that the analysis doesn’t make concrete only in this theoretical research but it includes four experimental exercices generated with regard to this investigation.
