Abstract The aim of this doctoral thesis is the study of the Motion graphics. Motion graphics is presented as an indivisible element from the actual audiovisual systems, within conventional mass media, films or television, as well as within other multiplatform systems, such as great events or peripheral devices, as it is part of the communication & it represents the ideal transmission vehicle of certain parts of the message. Motion graphics acts as a support, both for the written information & for the identity signals, at the same time as it stimulates the persuasive mechanisms. Having said this, motion graphics is a very much needed element within the different speeches, considered as an added-value element, its aesthetic & semantic qualities contribute to the penetration of the messages into the audience. The development of this investigation is aimed at taking out the specific aspects of the audiovisual graphic language, which main characteristic is the brief speeches. For this purpose, the elements that are part of this language have been analysed (image, typography, movement, sound, space, time …), as well as the mechanisms that draw the links between these & its main discursive (reasoning) structures. The uses, resources & expressive strategies have also been analysed, so as to get closer to the syntax & semantics of the Motion graphics. The analysis of the records, from its origins in the silent movies until today, emphasizing those relevant milestones, has been key to the understanding of the motion graphics the way we understand it today. A specific case study has been subject to the study: the creation, administration & transmission of the corporate image through television, for which a deep analysis of those characteristics specific to the environment has been conducted, which makes it different to others & who influence considerably on the way identity is administered. The study of the different components of the motion graphics & the assembly mechanisms among these, represent a method of analysis, applicable to any expression of motion graphics & the mechanisms of linkage among these. To conclude with this thesis, this method has been applied to two case studies produced by the person writing this thesis, in the television field, the on-air identity of Canal9 (2006-2008) & the on-air identity of Punt2 (2005-2006). The approach & development of this research has verified the hypothesis set up at the time of starting the research, proving them to be right.
