Nowadays the Spanish university system is facing a crucial moment when there is not only the integration within the common European Higher Education Area, but also a continuous decrease in the number of students acessing the university. In order to deal with such a situation, Spanish universities have started to undertake the development of strategic plans, global programmes, individual context analysis, and other similar measures. In this study we carry out a strategic analysis of the evolution of ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) Studies at the Polytechnic University of Valencia (Universidad Politécnica de Valencia), with the aim of both analysing the evolution of these studies over the last years and establishing their foreseeable evolution in the coming years, so as to suggest lines of actions to promote the choice of these studies for a larger amount of potencial students, if this is considered necessary by the university governing boards. Moreover, we also suggest the development and implementation of an analytical methodolgy which can be readily transferred to other fields of study. The study begins with a description of the research objectives and the methodology to meet these objectives. In chapter 2 the Spanish University system is analysed. Chapter 3 includes an analysis and interpretation of the data regarding the educational system, both at global and local levels. Chapter 4 focuses mainly on employment issues. In Chapter 5 the ICT studies at the Universidad Politécnica de Valencia are analysed and discussed, and in Chapter 6 the conclusions of the study are presented.
