DOMINGO RIBEIRO SORIANO Abstract: Entrepreneurship becomes a developing field of study due to two reasons: the support given by the Administration (from an international to a local level), and entrepreneurs who generate wealth and employment in society. Theoretically there is still no agreed framework as a reference for the analysis of this phenomenon and therefore one of its main protagonists: the entrepreneur. In this thesis we face the study of the entrepreneurial phenomenon and analyze the skills and behavioural patterns that characterize the university entrepreneur. In order to build his profile, different from the profiles of the rest of employees and self-employed, 19.746 European graduates are analyzed in first place and secondly 1.090 entrepreneurs from the Valencian Community (most of them with university degrees). Training and education have an enormous influence on entrepreneurs and the way they face occupational choices as demonstrated along this analysis. During their studies, entrepreneurs demand an emphasized entrepreneurial education closer to business reality; afterwards, as demonstrated with a sample of 4.040 entrepreneurs, they attend training activities in order to strengthen their entrepreneurial behaviour patterns and train in Business or Management. To conclude the thesis, the case of IDEAS Institute of the Polytechnic University of Valencia (the first area to support entrepreneurs in the Spanish University) is analyzed in depth.
