La arquitectura popular tradicional a examen: Diagnóstico experimental en la comarca del Rincón de Ademuz
(Universitat Politècnica de València, 2005-12-20) Bianco, Alessia; Guerrisi, Gabriella
[EN] The article describes the results of a diagnosis campaign carried out in situ by means of non destructive tests in order to discover some material aspects of traditional building practices in the parish of Rincón de Ademuz (Valencian Community), which made it possible to assess their quality, resistance and general state of conservation. Apart from the innovative character of this cognitive approach to simple traditional architecture, these studies aspire to propose and draw up a new way of refurbishing these houses, respecting their original architectural system during the restoration process.

[EN] The Europa Nostra prize granted to a pilot project to recuperate traditional dwellings in a remote secluded area in the Valencian countryside, thus putting the heritage of vernacular architecture on the same footing as important European monuments. The background, general approach of the project, specific solutions, economic viability and first steps in the restoration of this architecture based on its constructional and structural essence are laid out below.

El monasterio cisterciense de Nª Sª de Rueda y su restauración
(Universitat Politècnica de València, 2005-12-20) Ibargüen Soler, Javier
[EN] The long restoration process of this monastery in the town of Sástago (Zaragoza) has made it possible to discover and rehabilitate it to be used as a museum and an inn. This Cistercian monastery is an extraordinary example of monastic life thanks to the pristine state of many of its rooms. This enormous work is a token of the praiseworthy exertions and persistence of the architect restorer and the administration of the Autonomous Community concerned, who have resolutely dedicated their skill and resources to the complex retrieval of this symbol of the past.

La restauración del Mercado de Colón de Valencia
(Universitat Politècnica de València, 2005-12-20) Martínez Díaz, Enrique
[EN] This market, currently in the busiest nucleus in the city centre, is a Moderniste landmark in the urban panorama of the Ensanche district. The need to refurbish the building, revitalise its function as a market according to modern standards and to provide it with parking lots that were sorely needed in the area marked the line of the global refurbishment of Colón Market, which was carried out in two stages: an initial phase, dealt with in this article, consisting of general restoration works and extension to contain three basements for parking and a semi-basement for commercial purposes, and a second phase that consisted of conditioning the latter as a contemporary shopping concourse.

La restauración de la Villa Durante en Roma
(Universitat Politècnica de València, 2005-12-20) Schiattarella, Andrea
[EN] Perhaps because there are so many monuments in Rome, sometimes works that are not very well known to the public in general but no less important for all that fall into oblivion. This is the case of Villa Durante, a splendid stately home, erected during the building fever that followed the seizure of Rome by the Bersaglieri, when it was made capital of Italy. The building, forgotten and neglected for years, has been restored to its original splendour during the recent works described below.

(Universitat Politècnica de València, 2005-12-20) Dezzi Bardeschi, Marco
[EN] With an overpowering prose style full of reason and feeling, Professor Dezzi Bardeschi explains his personal creed in defence of conservation rather than restoration. The history of both disciplines in Italy, the International Restoration Charters and their main protagonists are the central strand of a reasoning that refutes the unjustifiable whims and frivolities linked to restoration to defend respect for the material and historical integrity involved in the conservation of a building seen as a monument/document.
