The blue crab, Callinectes sapidus Rathbun (1896), originally from the western shores of the Atlantic Ocean, has been introduced into Mediterranean waters where it is now considered an invasive species. The present study aimed to know the abundance of C. sapidus, through catches at 3 sampling points of the coastal environment of Gandia by means of traps and through the accidental catches of the marine coastal zone through nets. Although caution should be exercised in interpreting these results, given the low number of total catches, known limitations of the traps and that not all specimens caught in the marine environment were given for this study; in the estuarine environment the percentage of males captured was higher than that of females, unlike the marine environment, where the opposite occurred. These facts coincide with the existing biological information of this species. The greater knowledge of the species and the commercialization of C. sapidus could be useful for the later management of this invasive species.
