Gordeeff, Eliane
[EN] This article has the objective to analyze how a stop motion animation can be used to represent specific moments of a live-action narrative: dreams, memories, thoughts and hallucinations of the character, what it means, its diegetic imaginarium. However, the appropriations of other visual means for the representations of environments and emotions are also observed. The analysis were made based on the animated sequence of Frida Kahlo’s dream, as well as on the scene in which she cuts her hair, from the film by Julie Taymor Frida (2002). A thought about the animated image and its representation (as part of a story in filmed image) is developed in accordance with the narrative and cinema concepts: visual rhetorics and the similarity of the animation of puppets with the theater, as well as cultural matters.; [ES] Este artículo tiene el propósito de analizar cómo una animación en stop-motion puede ser utilizada para representar escenas específicas de una narrativa en acción real: las de los sueños, los recuerdos, los pensamientos y las alucinaciones del protagonista, o sea, su imaginarium diegético.

[EN] Although Josep Escobar is well known as the creator of the comic strip characters of Zipi and Zape or Carpanta, he was one of the Spanish Animation pioneers. Even though he had a fruitful career in the Animation field, that lasted more than fifteen years, his animated works are unknown by public at large. To fill that gap, this article aims to make a journey through the several contributions he made to the Animation language, which inherited his experience in apparently such uneven fields like the comic strip, the mechanics of the gag, the dissemination of Animation technique, the creation of characters, the animated documentaries and the film direction.; [ES] Aunque es recordado como el padre de Zipi y Zape y Carpanta, Josep Escobar fue uno de los pioneros de la animación en España.

Based on interviews and surveys conducted by experts in the sector, it can be glimpsed the new direction of short film in this country. This research illustrates the difficulties and contradictions confronted by these films, such as the lack of regulation by the Administration, the lack of commercial dimension and the legitimacy of this production at the film industry.; [ES] Este artículo muestra el panorama de la profesionalización del cortometraje de animación español en la presente década.

[EN] The morphology is the study of the form, which allows us to locate, recognize and classify our environment. The objective of this text is to explore the narrative morphology in order to determine what the non-narrative structure is, based mainly on Understanding Animation by Paul Wells (2007 [1998]); Film Art : An Introduction by Bordwell and Thompson (1995 [1979]); and Movement as Meaning in Experimental Cinema by Daniel Barnett (2017 [2008]). In addition, six different non-narrative configurations are proposed, based on cinematographic discourses that defied the narrative canons like Vertov’s Kino-eye, the visual music, the structuralists and Peleshyan’s distance montage.; [ES] La morfología es el estudio de la forma, que permite ubicar, conocer y clasificar nuestro entorno. [EN] The crossmedia narrative in the Japanese cultural industry is a phenomenon that adapts the same story through different formats, such as comics, animation films and series or video games, among others. Although the content tends to be similar, each medium has certain characteristics. The manga is a static graphic medium, while anime is an audiovisual medium, which creates an illusion of movement; however they lack interactivity on the part of readers or spectators. Instead, video games provide the audience with the possibility of interacting with the characters and elements of those stories. This article tries to find out the similarities and differences of the formal narrative aspect in a specific case: the manga of Kentaro Miura, Berserk (1988), its last cinematographic adaptations, that have relaunched the franchise, and the video game that followed that trilogy.; [ES] La narrativa “crossmedia” en la industria cultural japonesa es un fenómeno que adapta una misma historia a través de distintos formatos, como el cómic, la animación o los videojuegos, entre otros.

Las claves gráficas de Ghost in the Shell
Cuenca García, Celia
[EN] In 2017, Ghost in the Shell. The Soul of the Machine was released in a real-image version of the animated film Ghost in the Shell, created by Mamoru Oshii in 1995 from the manga of Masamune Shirow Kokaku Kidotai (1989). While the remake tried to honor the plastic universe of the director and the entire saga, its aesthetic approach showed some differences that made the new proposal a technophobic and pessimistic version. The reason is that while this review highlights the human essence as a superior feature, the anime defended cyborg hybridization as a revolutionary attitude and open to the future. To develop that optimistic view, Oshii used three graphic clues that defined the discourse of his film, to highlight the transgressed limits, to represent the fusion of opposites, and to design the dangerous possibilities that the technological future could bring. In our opinion, those three ideas already appeared in a work previous to Oshii's film, which looked to the future in a very similar way: Donna Haraway’s “A Cyborg Manifesto” (1991). This article addresses the translation of these theoretical assumptions to their aesthetic representation through animation, a genre that offered Oshii the possibilities with which to create a unique universe.; [ES] En 2017 se estrenó Ghost in the Shell.

[EN] Anime is frequently the origin of media-mixes, that is, strategies of production and distribution of transmedia products in the Japanese global markets. Synergies can be formed through collaborative authorships and transmedia adaptations. While there is an important academic discussion about authorship in media, its role in the context of video games and the media mix is not that clear. In this sense, Ni No Kuni saga (2011-2018) is studied for being a unique case of intertextuality between the work of Studio Ghibli, and particularly the influential Hayao Miyazaki (1941) and Role Playing Video Games. The paper will show how individual and collective authorships consolidate common styles and narratives in the form of coherent corporate images and branding. These images survive the original authors to be replicated through the rest of the transmedia production.; [ES] El anime es origen habitual del media-mix o estrategias de producción y distribución de productos transmedia en el mercado japonés de alcance global.

[EN] This article synthesizes the experience in visual programming acquired during the last years by the research group IDECA (research and development of audiovisual content) in the development of audiovisual projects and videogames. To achieve this goal, we dive into the process of creating a video game through the analysis of two of the main development environments based on visual programming Blender and Unreal Engine. By a detailed study of the methodology and process used on Blender logic bricks and the Unreal Engine nodular system of Blueprints, we will define how visual scripting has become the reference in the development of videogames. To achieve this goal, we will analyze and compare the similarities and differences between both frameworks, in order to understand which framewok is better to guarantee success.; [ES] Este artículo sintetiza la experiencia en programación visual adquirida durante los últimos años por el grupo de investigación IDECA (investigación y desarrollo de contenidos audiovisuales) en el desarrollo de proyectos audiovisuales y videojuegos.

[EN] Despite its popularity, there is limited information available about the particularities of the anime production model and the tools used during its meticulous creation process, in which traditional drawing and painting techniques are effectively combined with digital tools. One of the possible causes of this ignorance about the process of elaboration of the anime, apart from the strict confidentiality rules of any animation studio, is the difficulty to find original material that shows in detail how an animation is created in Japan and what tools they use to give life to those characters with bulging eyes and pointed hair that have fascinated us for so many years —and still continue to do so. In this article, Antonio Horno —renowned promoter of anime culture in Spain and author of the book El lenguaje del anime. Del papel a la pantalla (Diábolo, 2017)— will show us the different stages that make up this creative process and some of the most used computer programs in Japanese studies, highlighting those particularities that, regardless of the artistic factor or style, come to establish the hallmark of the current anime.; [ES] A pesar de la popularidad del anime, existe todavía hoy un conocimiento limitado sobre las particularidades de su modelo de producción y de las herramientas utilizadas durante el meticuloso proceso de creación, en el que se combina eficazmente las técnicas tradicionales de dibujo y pintura con las herramientas digitales.
