This research report collects and synthesizes available literature on the extent of the
problem of soil erosion and degradation in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) and emphasizes in
the problem in Ethiopia. Identify the soil conservation strategies including both physical
structures, biological measures and reforestation/afforestation as a mean of erosion
control. The second part of the report is focused on different contra erosive projects did
it in Ethiopia in the last years both government programs and programs carried out by
institutions and non-governmental organizations (NGO-s). The report emphasizes in the
project carried out by the Mendel University in Brno (Czech Republic) in Ethiopia
(Hawassa Zurya Wereda) funding by the Czech Development Agency with three years
duration (2010-2012), as a pilot model for rural development in SNNPR, Ethiopia.[-]
