ESTUDIO TÉCNICO Y PROCESO DE INTERVENCIÓN EN UNA "PIEDAD" SOBRE LIENZO, COPIA DE WILLEM KEY

Abstract

[EN] The subject of this Final Degree Project is a XIXth century’s painting, under the theme of Pieta, technically painted in oil on canvas. The artistic features of this artwork drove us to think, from the beginning, that it probably was a copy of a Flemish painting. After a systematic search for references, the original was found at the Alte Pinakothek in Munich. This finding allowed us to delve into the origins and the technical, artistic and iconic study of this painting. Related to the iconic issues, this opportunity was taken to distinguish the differences between the representation of Descent, Lamentation and Pieta. The technical and documentary researching of this artwork lead us to do an integral cleaning of the pictorial surface, as the alteration of the layer of varnish impeded the right interpretation of the painting. The restoration has been carried out both on the canvas as on the pictorial layers and it also includes the change of stretcher.

[ES] La obra objeto del presente trabajo final de grado es una pintura del siglo XIX, bajo el tema de una “Piedad” y ejecutada técnicamente al óleo sobre lienzo. Las características artísticas de la pieza nos hicieron pensar, desde un principio, en la posibilidad de que se tratara de una copia de una pintura flamenca. Tras una búsqueda sistemática de referentes, se encontró el original de la misma en la Alte Pinakothek de Munich. Este hallazgo nos ha permitido profundizar en sus orígenes y en el estudio técnico, artístico e icónico de la pintura. En referencia a las cuestiones de orden iconológico, se ha aprovechado la ocasión para discernir las diferencias entre las representaciones del descendimiento, la lamentación y la piedad. La realización de los estudios técnicos y documentales de la obra llevaron a tomar la decisión de realizar una limpieza integral de la superficie pictórica, ya que la alteración de la capa de barniz impedía la correcta lectura de la pintura. La intervención se ha realizado tanto en el soporte como en los estratos pictóricos e incluye también un cambio de bastidor.
