The evolution of prostheses: From hooks and peg legs to cyberphysical systems

[EN] In the last decade the high number of losses of humans limbs caused by diseases, accidents and other violent facts very common nowadays is increasing. According to World Health Organization (WHO) every thirty seconds an amputation is made. Therefore the need of good prosthesis is obvious, understanding for good, good aesthetics and good performance. The present work aims to make a review of how are the prosthesis in this moment and how can they evolve with the technology, with a conclusion of a confrontation between the mechanical prosthesis, the most often used nowadays, and the Brain Computer Interface (BCI) prosthesis, what they could be in a near future. Never mind the main topic is the prostheses, the work always will try to emphasize on the transfermoral prosthesis.
