Ironía en la imagen fotográfica como un acto de resistencia

Abstract

[EN] Irony is a slippery concept of difficult definition, its use is as old as language and its study goes back to Ancient Greece. Visual irony, on the other hand, has not been the object of broader reflections. This research focuses on the study therof. We are especially interested in those photographic images in which irony is used as an experience that poses the question of its significance, starting from resistance that is neither transcendent nor sublimated. Throughout our research process we have defined the object of our investigation by understanding artistic practice as research practice. By means of artistic and analytical methodologies we have defined the topic as those practices with an experimental approach to the use of collage and visual poetry, presenting irony as the capacity to doubt. Our visual experimentation of photography as play has enabled detour, relativisation, estrangement, examination of dogmatic language and creation of visual communication structures with new imageries. In this sense, irony in the photographic image is a form of questioning, of undermining meaning, of confronting uncertainty that dismantles unique discourse and essentialising culture in transmodernity.

[ES] La ironía es un concepto escurridizo, de difícil definición, su uso es tan antiguo como el habla y su estudio puede remontarse a la Antigua Grecia. La ironía visual, por el contrario, no ha sido objeto de amplias reflexiones. En esta tesis nos centramos en su estudio. Nos interesan especialmente las imágenes fotográficas que hacen uso de la ironía entendida como una experiencia que permite interrogarnos sobre el sentido, desde la resistencia no trascendente y no sublimada. A lo largo de nuestro proceso de investigación hemos centrado el objeto de estudio entendiendo la práctica artística como práctica investigadora. Mediante metodologías artísticas y de análisis hemos acotado aquellas prácticas que utilizan el collage y la poesía visual como experimentación y presentan a la ironía como la capacidad de dudar. La experimentación visual mediante el juego en la fotografía nos ha permitido el rodeo, la relativización, el extrañamiento, interrogarnos sobre lenguaje dogmático y crear estructuras de comunicación visual con nuevos imaginarios. Así, la ironía en la imagen fotográfica es una forma de interrogar, de subvertir el sentido, de enfrentarnos a la incertidumbre, que desmantela el discurso único y la cultura esencializante en la trasmodernidad
