It also tries to serve as a reference to the approaches that may find in the analysis and the interpretation of academic drawings a way for a better understanding of the origin of the contemporary architecture project. So the aim of this work is expositive and didactic at the same time. In this sense, the example of the failed project of the Basque architect Pedro Manuel de Ugartemendía for San Martín cemetery in San Sebastian, allows to identify the different factors involved in the architectural academic utopia. The architectural fact is approached within its own temporal context, bringing a viable solution that may complete the coherence of the original proposal.[ES] Este artículo desea afrontar el análisis del proceso de un proyecto académico de arquitectura a través de documentos inéditos. Pretende también servir de referencia a los acercamientos que puedan llegar a encontrar en el análisis y la interpretación de los dibujos del academicismo un cauce para la mejor comprensión del origen del proyecto contemporáneo de arquitectura. Su finalidad, por tanto, es expositiva y didáctica al mismo tiempo.En ese sentido, el ejemplo del fallido proyecto del arquitecto vasco Pedro-Manuel de Ugartemendía para el cementerio de San Martín en San Sebastián, va permitir reconocer cuantos factores intervienen en la utopía académica de la arquitectura.
