dc.description.abstract [EN] A lot of research effort is being made in the field of biomaterials, specifically those ones used for producing bone implants. New methods and materials are being studied in order to match the properties of the tissues that they replace and achieve better integration. One interesting field of research is titanium bone prostheses. Materials used for bone replacing are improving in order to match bone properties and therefore achieve a high osseointegration. Other ways of enhancing this are improving the surface and structure of them, or using biomaterials that can accelerate the formation of new bone material around the implant. The aim of this project is to explore new ways of fabricating novel functionally graded Ti-based implants based on powder metallurgy. This method can be used in order to get a high quality titanium scaffold with graded structural/ mechanical/biological properties that match those of bone, and along with the addition of biomaterials, enhances biointegration, and reduces the chances of implant failure. To conclude, this subject involves the study of new methods to produce easily high quality implants, but also the study of bone formation process and how to enhance it using bioactive compounds. Improving implant’s lifetime and reducing chances of failure will improve many people’s lives. es_ES
