[EN] As a consequence of lift, every aircraft produces trailing vortices, which consist of a counter rotating discrete vortex pair that drifts downwards. Due to the close proximity to ground during landing, interactions with obstacles on ground might occur.
Within an ongoing research project at the ILR, the relationship between these vortices and the geometry of gable roofs should be further investigated during this thesis.
For this purpose, several experimental techniques will be tested, to find a feasible method to visualize the wake and its interaction with the roof surface. After achieving this, a parametric study should be conducted to better understand the conditions under which the phenomenon occurs. Finally, the gained knowledge will be analysed in a systematic manner and presented in a written thesis.
The thesis comprises the following tasks: Literature research on wake vortices and necessary experimental techniques; Set-up for dye visualization and hydrogen bubbles; final adjustments to and implementation of the new house model; parametric study to investigate the impact of a change in roof geometry on the occurrence of the tornado like vortex on the roof surface and, finally, documentation of the process and result.
