[EN] Nowadays, there is an issue in the oceans due to the large number of microplastics presence. This
study is of great interest due to the effects on human health and the environment. In the sampling
of marine waters, the separation by size is done manually. Therefore, the design of a prototype of
a machine that optimizes this process is proposed.
The model will consist of a rotating machine, where the sampled water will be introduced, with a
series of filters inside with a descending sieve size. The main axis will generate the movement of
the filter structure, thus producing a force that will make the water pass through them. The
microplastics will adhere to each of the sieves according to their size. Once the residual water
emptying is finished, the filters with the polymers (from the top) can be removed for further study.
This work aims to contribute to the achievement of Goal 6.6 "Protection of water-related
ecosystems" of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 6 on "clean water" and more directly
with Goal 14.1 on the "reduction of pollution marine” contained in SDG14 which ensures
“underwater life”.
