[EN] “L’horta valenciana” forms a historical landscape that has shaped the regions of Huerta Norte, Huerta Oeste,
the city of Valencia and Huerta Sur (to which it gives its name) for centuries, until encountering “l’Albufera”. Within
this extensive geographical area, the meeting of the vegetable farms with urban centers is a reason for constant
conflict, in addition to its progressive degradation and loss of territory in favor of urban expansions.
On the north urban edge of the city of Valencia, the UPV borders contact with this landscape that, at this point,
has been enclosed by the university itself, the Patacona neighborhood and the construction of the V-21. As a
consequence, the mentioned barriers give rise to a residual space that shows the factors conducive to falling
into abandonment and, subsequently, disappearance.
The Agrocenter project stands between these three borders and its main objective is to give life to the landscape
and try, at the same time, not to influence its daily activities, which are necessary for its subsistence, since it is
a productive space.
In this way, the project works as a filter between the city and the vegetable farms that promotes its enhancement
and conservation. For this, the building will constitute a low-rise, permeable unit that is in constant relationship
with its surroundings, which shapes it and with which it interacts. The vegetable farms, paths and ditches are
the main characters in a building that aims to create different spaces and climates driven by a bioclimatic archi-
tecture, generating an atmosphere of work and community. Large study areas combined with private spaces
that confer a live, multifunctional, heterogeneous path and in perpetual connection with “l’horta”, from whose
experiences it is inspired.
