| es_ES |
dc.description.abstract | [EN] Until now photonic integrated circuits (PICs) are designed, fabricated, encapsulated and validated to accomplish a particular application. As this limits the expansion of the technology due to its related high cost, development times and risks, a recent paradigm proposed the use of multipurpose programmable photonic hardware. However, due to the ecosystem maturity, current implementations of fully functional programmable devices have been limited to simulation-based proof-of-concept works. To achieve the world-first experimental demonstration of a programmable device, we present the development of an automated routine that allows the characterization and calibration of arbitrary-sized programmable photonic cores based on waveguide mesh arrangements. The work also includes the development of the necessary functions and features to support the configuration of programmable photonic circuits. Finally, to validate the results, we apply the calibrated circuits and the developed framework for the experimental implementation of optical filters in microwave photonics: Unbalanced Mach-Zehnder Interferometers (UMZIs) and Optical Ring Resonators (ORRs). This demonstrates their successful performance and the accuracy of the first practical framework for the configuration of programmable photonic circuits. | en_EN |
