Depredación de anguila europea y tortuga boba sobre cangrejo azul

Abstract

[ES] Se evaluará la posible depredación por Anguilla anguilla (anguila europea) y Caretta caretta (tortuga boba) sobre Callinectes sapidus (cangrejo azul). La anguila europea y la tortuga boba son dos de las especies que se encuentran en el Mediterráneo español que potencialmente podrían realizar algún tipo de control sobre la población de cangrejo azul, especie invasora oportunista omnívora que tiene el potencial de infligir grandes efectos a múltiples niveles tróficos en hábitats no nativos. Se realizará primero una búsqueda y estudio bibliográfico sobre la posible depredación de estas dos especies y especies vicariantes sobre el cangrejo azul. Además se realizarán experimentos depredador-presa preliminares en el laboratorio donde se pretende a) estimar el tamaño máximo de cangrejo azul que puede ser consumida por distintas tallas y especies de los potenciales depredadores b) determinar la biomasa diaria de cangrejo por cada talla y especie

[EN] The possible predation by Anguilla anguilla (European eel) and Caretta caretta (loggerhead turtle) on Callinectes sapidus (blue crab) will be evaluated. The European eel and loggerhead turtle are two of the species found in the Spanish Mediterranean that could potentially exert some control over the population of the blue crab, an opportunistic omnivorous invasive species that has the potential to inflict large effects at multiple trophic levels in non-native habitats. A literature search and study on the potential predation of these two species and vicariant species on the blue crab will be conducted first. In addition, preliminary predator-prey experiments will be conducted in the laboratory to a) estimate the maximum size of blue crab that can be consumed by different sizes and species of potential predators b) determine the daily biomass of crab for each size and species.
