El método morfológico aplicado a la arquitectura en la Hochschule für Gestaltung de Ulm

Abstract

[EN] Shortly before leaving the Hochschule für Gestaltung (hfg) Ulm, in the midst of the crisis of his rectorship, Max Bill introduced to the school of design the application of morphology to design. Under the principle of order that had inspired Bacon and Mendeleyev, the confrontation of repertoires in tables and graphs proved to be an effective tool for scientific research and environmental design. However, relatively little is known about the course of morphology at the hfg, even less so about Architektur/ Bauen, whose results, in competition with other schools of architecture, did not reach garner much of a reputation at other departments. The aim of this work is to investigate the application of combinatorics in the practical work of this hfg department, and to unravel such methods as a fundamental contribution to the proposals of this design school.

[ES] El artículo estudia el uso de la combinatoria gráfica en el proceso de diseño arquitectónico en el ámbito de la Hochschule für Gestaltung de Ulm a través de los textos dispersos y las demostraciones de sus protagonistas. Bajo el mismo principio de orden que inspiraron a Bacon y Mendeléiev, la confrontación de repertorios en tablas y gráficos resultó ser una herramienta eficaz en la investigación científica y también en el diseño del entorno. El método morfológico seduce aún, no por su objetividad, sino porque permite experimentar y reconstruir el proceso de creación como un juego de azar y necesidad. El interés actual por la inteligencia artificial y el diseño paramétrico hace pertinente recordar los ingenios tan a mano aún que los precedieron.
