[EN] Valencia is a tourist city that welcomes tourists from many countries every year, and the number of Japanese is no exception and continues to increase. In terms of total tourist
spending coming to Spain in 2019, before the pandemic, Japan is the most important Asian market, with 1,481 million euros. However, despite being the third largest city in Spain, Valencia receives very few Japanese tourists each year compared to the rest of the autonomous communities, and only a tenth of those of the second largest city, Barcelona.
Therefore, this paper first analyzes the characteristics of Japanese tourists. Then, to investigate the reasons for the low number of Japanese tourists, a questionnaire is used
to find out the image of Valencia as a tourist city and what they are looking for when they travel abroad. Finally, to attract Japanese tourists based on the results of the previous research, improvements are proposed based on the types of tourism they are interested in.
