[EN] The main objective of the following study has been to analyze the combustion process in
a diesel engine of medium size, to later study emissions generated therein. To do this, i am
going to use the information from the experimental case and from the CFD model correctly
adjusted.
With the intention to achieve this objective, i have followed a sequential structure in
which first will describe and analyze the combustion process for two characteristic
performance points from the engine mapping, full and low load, from the evolution of the
pressure inside the cylinder and the heat release rate, combining experimental data with
theoretical. Then, with the intention of checking whether the engine CFD model is well
adjusted to the experimental data and can be used in subsequent analyzes of the
investigation, the pressure and the heat released during the combustion process are
compared and analyzed the differences between them.
Finally, in the last part of this document, they will be modified different aspects of the
engine in the CFD model correctly adjusted (geometry, mixture formation, chemical
mechanism) in order to check the sensitivity of the combustion process in terms of emissions
generated, cylinder pressure and amount of heat released.
