| es_ES |
dc.description.abstract | [EN] This thesis tries to analyze from an architectural point of view, one of the most significant works of the Renaissance in Valencia: the cloister of the Real Colegio de Corpus Christi. Its founder and developer, Saint Juan de Ribera, Archbishop of Valencia and Patriarch of Antioch, built this work in the late sixteenth century as result of the Council of Trent mandate and leads us visibly through the transition from Gothic to Renaissance. The predominance of horizontal plane as opposed to the vertical and the figure of man over that of the building. Despite being an architectural work with an important codified innovative content and language, imbued in the treatise of, amongst others, Serlio, Vignola and Palladio as well as pioneering adaptions in construction typologies such as is the Greco‐Roman and classical forms, for what were to be major future projects, such as the Convento Santo Domingo or the Monasterio de San Miguel de los Reyes, there are some important gaps in the authorship, construction and development details in relation to the cloister itself as well as the later plans drawn up in relation to it and those studies carried out on it. From the initial starting point of having the clear intention of shedding light on these issues within the context of a most realistic reading of the building, respecting the inaccuracy of its construction, which in turn, are in effect the precisely the clues needed to have a better understanding of it. We consider it fundamental to begin this reading with a brief history of the building as a whole starting from a general chronology or timeline. Bearing in mind their historical context, we briefly analyze the description of the building and its surroundings, enabling us to further develop the core of the study of the cloister. This part is made up of four major blocks: system analysis by means of plans, geometric analysis and measurement, construction and materials analysis and pathological analysis. Finally, we analyze the results and conclusions of this preliminary study, thereby marking the way to further studies and mapping of the cloister, a bedrock study for future investigation. | es_ES |
