La Iglesia del convento de Santo Domingo: fuentes, análisis e hipótesis de reconstrucción

Abstract

[ES] El siguiente trabajo es un estudio sobre la iglesia mayor desaparecida del Convento de Santo Domingo de Valencia y la hipótesis de su reconstrucción a partir de un profundo análisis de la recopilación tanto bibliográfica como de imágenes. En primer lugar, se trata de enmarcar y poner en contexto el trabajo, y para ello se hace un repaso histórico desde el establecimiento de los frailes dominicos en la ciudad de Valencia hasta la conversión del convento de Predicadores en Capitanía General. Se analizan las sucesivas etapas arquitectónicas por las que pasó la edificación de su convento. A continuación se realiza un análisis de la iglesia, a partir de los testimonios escritos, la fábrica conservada y las imágenes y grabados de distintas épocas, así como un estudio general de la arquitectura de las iglesias de Valencia entre los siglos XIII y XV. Por último, se aborda la hipótesis de reconstrucción de la tercera iglesia desaparecida mediante la toma de medidas del tramo de los pies conservado en la entrada de la Capilla de San Vicente y las medidas del Claustro Mayor, junto a las descripciones de J. Teixidor.

[EN] The following work is a study of the principal disappeared church of Saint Dominic's convent of Valencia and the hypothesis of its reconstruction, which has been carried out from a deep analysis of bibliographic compilation and images. First of all, the work tries to contextualize the work and for that a historical review is done from the establishment of the dominican friars in Valencia to the convent's conversion into General Captaincy. The successive architectonic stages which has the convent gone through, are also analyzed. Then an analysis of the principal church is carried out from the written testimony, the preserved legacy and the images and engravings from different eras, as well as an overview of architecture in Valencian churches between the thirteenth and fifteenth century. Finally, the work approaches the reconstruction hypothesis of the third disappeared church from the measures taken of the preserved section of the principal church which is at the entrance of St. Vincent chapel, and the mesures of the gotic cloister, as well as from the description given by J. Teixidor.
