Šuchov 1853-1939 Bauten aus Netzen und Gittern Bill Addis - pág. 128Item type: Artículo , Access status: Abierto , La primera cáscara delgada de concreto armado con doble curvatura en México en el contexto de su función y de su construcción(Universitat Politècnica de València, 2023-12-29) Silva Contreras, Mónica[EN] The article refers to the roof over the stage of the Angela Peralta open-air theater in Mexico City built in 1938-1939 by Roberts & Schaefer Co. from Chicago under the Dywidag license of Dyckerhoff and Widmann. This may be considered the earliest reinforced concrete thin shell in Mexico with synclastic double curvature, as well as the first cover for the stage of an open-air theater in Mexico. The objective is to contextualize the work to contribute to its valuation in the history of modern architectural construction in Mexico. A first contextual approach would be the achievements in Germany, where the structural principles for designing this type of roof were specified. In addition, there is the American context, where the presence of large international construction companies led to the promotion of curved reinforced concrete roofs. The immediate context is the Mexican, where since the beginning of the 20th century several designers, businessmen and workers had been formed for the elaboration of reinforcement and molds. It was an environment that grew in post-revolutionary times. In addition, it is important to outline the context in which the first open-air theaters emerged, the function for which the structure was built. In these four contextual levels arose that shell which in 1938 was the second double-curvature shell in America and which still in 1954 Anton Tedesko pointed out as part of the diffusion of these kinds of structures.Item type: Artículo , Access status: Abierto , Puentes Novohispanos en Coyoacán(Universitat Politècnica de València, 2023-12-29) Boils Morales, Guillermo[EN] This text concerns on a few arch bridges in the Coyoacán locality at Mexico City Central south region. They were built during the three centuries of Spanish domination, but they remain in good conditions nevertheless some of them were built four centuries ago. They have experienced some construction changes, but their original structure remains the same. Their function in viceroyalty times was considerable for people mobility and farming products to the New Spain capital. Some of these bridges are still working fine for contemporary vehicular communication even for very heavy cargo trucks.Item type: Artículo , Access status: Abierto , Claude Perrault, la columnata del Louvre y la invención de la fábrica armada(Universitat Politècnica de València, 2023-12-29) Huerta, Santiago[EN] The colonnade of the Louvre is Claude Perrault s masterpiece, not only for its aesthetic appeal, but also for the technical solution he adopted. Perrault can be considered the inventor of the reinforced masonry, in which stone resists compressive forces and iron resists tensile forces. This article examines the design, construction and structural behavior of the colonnade of the Louvre and assesses its safety by means of an equilibrium analysis within the framework of Heyman s Limit Analysis. The colonnade is stable, well designed, and the only problems it has suffered throughout its history are due to corrosion of the iron elements.Item type: Artículo , Access status: Abierto , Promoción, proyecto y obra de la Plaza Mayor de Salamanca(Universitat Politècnica de València, 2023-12-29) Ávila Jalvo, José Miguel[EN] In this study about the Plaza Mayor of Salamanca, a series of exquisitely documented texts are translated into the architectural language that reveal technical problems that they were not meant to unravel. Problems that affect the promotion and ordering of the city center; to the project of the facades of this new square, full of arcades and balconies, and visible face of the public space; and the construction of the galleries that support them, half of them interfered with their privacy hiding the existing buildings.Item type: Artículo , Access status: Abierto , El edificio El Pilar, de los arquitectos Luis García Pardo y Adolfo Sommer(Universitat Politècnica de València, 2023-12-29) Fontana Cabezas, Juan José[EN] El Pilar building is a paradigmatic work of the uruguayan modernity in whose design and construction some of the most outstanding local technicians were involved. The aim of this work is to analyze technical information about the building in order to recognize its technological characteristics, evaluate the impact it had, identify the vulnerabilities it suffers and determine the implications that the decisions taken for its materialization have had on its current state of preservation. The main risks faced by the structure are the failure of the prestressing wires due to stress corrosion cracking, the failure of the reinforcements of the roof beams due to corrosion, and the failure of the tension members due to corrosion or contact with fire. Particular consideration should be given to the fact that some of the most structurally compromised parts are located in areas that are usually inaccessible and brittle failure is possible.Item type: Artículo , Access status: Abierto , Antonio M. Anza y su tesis sobre el trazo del ferrocarril mexicano(Universitat Politècnica de València, 2023-12-29) Bühler Gminder, Dirk[EN] Antonio M. Anza is one of the most outstanding civil engineers in Mexico at the end of the 19th century. He designed and built important buildungs and installed the first Mexican civil engineering laboratory. His architectural and engineering studies were exemplary for his time. He wrote his thesis for his engineering degree on the layout of the Mexican Railway, a project in which he collaborated from 1873 onwards. In his thesis he gives us an explicit and extensive idea of the knowledge he acquired during his training. As a civil engineer on site, he gives us a contemporary view of the topographical considerations, structural designs, scientific bases and some of the actors involved. Comparing the content of the thesis with current knowledge about the Mexican Railway produces new and surprising results for the history of construction in Mexico.
