Del artista al restaurador. La construcción del espacio de la restauración como disciplina

Abstract

En este artículo se pretende ofrecer una visión del desarrollo que experimenta el perfil del restaurador en el ámbito institucional español, desde los inicios del siglo XIX hasta 1920. Para ello, se tomará como referente la correspondencia consultada en los archivos de los principales Museos y Reales Academias de Bellas Artes de las ciudades de Madrid y Sevilla. El motivo radica en la gran trascendencia histórica que ambas capitales han asumido, a escala nacional, en el proceso de gestación y consolidación de la restauración, así como en la difusión de las artes. Los resultados de este estudio permitirán comprender las relaciones profesionales existentes en diferentes contextos espaciales e institucionales. Éstas han impulsado la figura del restaurador y han determinado el avance progresivo hacia una consideración más científica y especializada del mismo.

This article tries to offer a vision of the development that shows the profile of the restorer in the institutional Spanish field from the beginning of 19th century until 1920. In order to do this, the consulted correspondence of the main Museums and Royal Academies of Fine Arts of the cities of Madrid and Seville are taken as reference. The reason lies in the high historical importance that both main cities have assumed on a national scale in the process of gestation and consolidation of the restoration and the dissemination of arts. The results of this study allow the understanding of the existing professional relations in different spatial and institutional contexts. These have promoted the figure of the restorer and have determined the progressive advance to a more scientific and specialised consideration.
