| dc.description.abstract | [EN] From Christopher Alexander’s Pattern Language and The Timeless Way of Building to the algorithmic structures shaping contemporary communication and Large Language Models, can we trace a continuity between traditional and modern patterns of design? What are we missing to reconnect human artifacts with planetary boundaries? Ecodesigner Edwin Datschefski’s early 21st-century five principles for ecodesign provide a more comprehensive understanding of design impacts compared to prevalent certification models like LEED, DGNB, or WELL. These principles highlight the need for a broader perspective on sustainability, one often overlooked in standardized frameworks. Vernacular architecture, by necessity and human scale, addresses embodied energy through immediate, intuitive assessments rooted in lived experience. Its efficiency in evaluating resource use outpaces modern technological approaches, offering critical lessons in sustainable design. This research explores strategies and knowledge developed by craftsmen from past and present, presenting case studies and interviews from workshops and field studies in the Cap de Creus area. The goal is to create guidelines for integrating traditional wisdom into modern construction practices. Far from simply replicating forms or using local materials, vernacular architecture reveals profound insights into the design-build relationship. By learning how to tradere—to transmit—this knowledge, we aim to inform a future where humanity, technology, and the planet coexist in harmony. | en_EN |
