[EN] The paper proposes an analysis of the Villa d’Ayala Castle in Valva, a monument located within a garden complex in the Province of Salerno dating back the 12th century.Due to the 1980 earthquake which caused numerous damages structural damage to the original building, in its present state the castle is severely degraded and in a state of neglect. The specific objective of the research conducted was to identify potential and vulnerability of the artifact investigated by documenting its state of preservation and characteristics material-constructive features. Following this methodological approach, the contribution focused more on the wall fixtures and building materials construction materials used in the construction of the Villa d’Ayala Castle in order to prepare a chronotypological sorting through the sampling of documented masonry portions for possible dating. The goal of the research involved the identification of the vulnerabilities of a monument located in an earthquake zone, the maintenance and transmission of heritage in its material and intangible authenticity, preserving the co-presence of the multiple and layered values that connote it.
