Il puntone di Santa Maria Maddalena nella fortezza medicea di Sansepolcro

Abstract

[EN] The study analyzes the puntone of Santa Maria Maddalena of the Medici fortress of Sansepolcro, a fortified ‘transition’ architecture, the investigations carried out during the partial restoration work represent the development of scientific research. ‘Open research’ is part of the cultural-scientific contribution of a system that considers “knowledge as synonymous with protection”. The fortress, built around 1500 by Giuliano da Sangallo on behalf of the Florentine Republic and completed in 1561 by Alberto Alberti at the behest of Cosimo I, is inserted in an edge of the city walls, develops on pre-existing structures and is made up of a quadrangular enclosure having puntoni a cuore at the corners that identify the Sangallo. The analyzed puntone shows San Gallo's invention: “il fronte bastionato per la difesa radente”. The discoveries made suggest that the fortress is the result of a renovation, enveloping new ones on existing structures.
