Resumen

[EN] Although the Torre Guevara is a well-known monument on Ischia, little is known about its history. Built in the second half of the 15th century by a Guevara family, it remained in the family until the 19th century, when it was recently transferred to the Municipality. Thanks to the beauty of the surrounding countryside and its close proximity to the Castle of Ischia, the tower is in an enviable position. Nevertheless, very little is known about the history of the monument; its name was first changed to Torre di Sant'Anna (Tower of Saint Anna) because of its proximity to the church of the same name, and then in the 1920s to Torre di Michelangelo (Tower of Michelangelo), on the basis of a legend that had no historical basis and was justified for obvious tourist reasons. The aim of this work is to reconstruct the most important moments of its history on the basis of bibliographical and iconographical sources and, thanks to archival research, to identify the most recent restorations.
