The uses of drawing for the representation of the city of Zaragoza in the context of the French Invasion

[ES] En este artículo se documentan y analizan diferentes representaciones gráficas de la ciudad de Zaragoza que se realizaron en el contexto de la invasión francesa a comienzos del siglo XIX. Especialmente, aquellas que se acometieron tras los Sitios de Zaragoza (1808 y 1809), cuando en toda Europa surgió un gran interés por el heroico comportamiento de la ciudad aragonesa frente al invasor francés y la necesidad de documentar y difundir el horror causado a sus habitantes y su patrimonio. A través de la consulta de distintos archivos históricos europeos se ha localizado un importante aparato gráfico producido por diversos autores extranjeros y españoles que reproducen la arquitectura y el paisaje de la ciudad en el contexto de dicho acontecimiento histórico. Además, motivados por distintas causas u objetivos que nos permiten clasificar estas propuestas y reconocer su valor como fundamento en la investigación sobre el patrimonio zaragozano perdido.

[EN] This article documents and analyses different graphic representations of the city of Zaragoza that were made in the context of the French invasion at the beginning of the 19th century. In particular, those that were undertaken after the Sieges of Zaragoza (1808 and 1809), when a great interest arose throughout Europe in the heroic behaviour of the Aragonese city in response to the French invader and the need to document and disseminate the horror caused to its inhabitants and its heritage. Through the consultation of different European historical archives, an important graphic apparatus has been located, produced by various authors - both foreign and Spanish - which reproduce the architecture and landscape of the city in the context of this historical event. Moreover, motivated by different causes or objectives that allow us to classify these proposals and recognise their value as a basis for research into the lost heritage of Zaragoza.
