Abstract

[ES] En la historia de Valencia los artesanos del Carmen desempeñaron un papel crucial en la vida económica y social de la ciudad durante siglos. Estos gremios eran asociaciones de artesanos que compartían un oficio o una habilidad específica y se organizaban para proteger sus intereses, regular la competencia y mantener altos estándares de calidad en sus productos. En los gremios situados en el barrio se abarcaban una amplia gama de oficios, como la carpintería, la herrería, la alfarería, la tapicería, entre otros. Cada gremio tenía su propia estructura jerárquica, con maestros artesanos, aprendices y compañeros que trabajaban juntos en talleres y comercios ubicados en el barrio. En el siglo XX, el Barrio del Carmen experimentó un renacimiento cultural y urbano, convirtiéndose en un centro de vida nocturna, arte y cultura en Valencia. El barrio es conocido por su ambiente bohemio y vibrante, con una mezcla ecléctica de arquitectura histórica y moderna. Es un lugar emblemático que refleja la historia y la diversidad cultural de Valencia. Por ello, el siguiente proyecto trae a la actualidad la típica casa obrador característica del barrio del Carmen, desarrollando un proyecto formado por una cooperativa de vivienda y unos talleres artesanales.

[EN] In the history of Valencia, the artisans of El Carmen played a crucial role in the economic and social life of the city for centuries. These guilds were associations of craftsmen sharing a specific craft or skill and organized to protect their interests, regulate competition and maintain high quality standards in their products. The guilds in the neighbourhood covered a wide range of trades, such as carpentry, blacksmithing, pottery, upholstery, among others. Each guild had its own hierarchical structure, with master craftsmen, apprentices and colleagues working together in workshops and shops located in the neighbourhood. In the 20th century, the Barrio del Carmen experienced a cultural and urban renaissance, becoming a centre of nightlife, art and culture in Valencia. The neighborhood is known for its bohemian and vibrant atmosphere, with an eclectic mix of historic and modern architecture. It is an emblematic place that reflects the history and cultural diversity of Valencia. The following project brings to present day the typical working house characteristic of the Carmen neighbourhood, developing a project consisting of a housing cooperative and craft workshops.
