Un lienzo barroco de "San Vicente Ferrer", copia de Juan de Juanes. Estudio técnico, iconográfico y proceso de intervención

Abstract

[EN] In this Final Project s degree are collected the study and intervention of an anonymous oil painting on canvas. The opera, dated on the second half of the 17th century, presents typical characteristics of the Valencian Baroque School of Art. On the artwork is represented the figure of St. Vicente Ferrer. The figure appears seated, accompanied with attributes and garments that single out him as a friar of the Dominican Order. The representation presents graphic similarities with an oil painting on table of the artist Juan de Juanes, which is preserved in the Cathedral of Valencia. The study object and the artwork mentioned have the same representation, allowing to recognize narrow figurative typical ties as a copy. In this sense, the work of the famous Mannerist painter serves as a reference and guide in the graphic research and subsequent restoration of the painting. The information obtained by non-invasive analytical tests (RX, UV) has been able to verify the presence of extensive areas of over-paintings, as well as other additions and mutilations that are derived from old and irresponsible restorations. The intervention of the artwork has been developed in accordance with documentary and scientific basis. It have been especially studied and theorized in order to resolve the problems derived from the conservation or removal of the non-original stratums, in order to re-establish the potential unit of the image. The restoration have been focused on treatments of fixation of the uprisings pictorial layers and the cleaning of environmental dirt, varnishes and over-paintings, with the consequent attention to the hidden gaps under these sediments. Additionally, the reestablish of the original format has done with an extension of the support and its formal and chromatic integration.

[ES] El presente Trabajo Final de Grado, recoge el estudio e intervención en una pintura anónima sobre lienzo, con características propias de la escuela valenciana de la segunda mitad del S. XVII. La obra representa la figura de San Vicente Ferrer, sedente, acompañado por los atributos y vestimentas que le singularizan como fraile de la orden dominica. Las similitudes gráficas que se aprecian respecto a una pintura sobre tabla del artista Juan de Juanes, conservada en la Catedral de Valencia con la misma representación, permite reconocer estrechos lazos figurativos, propios de una copia. En este sentido, la obra del célebre pintor manierista sirve de referente y guía en la investigación gráfica y posterior restauración de la pintura. La información obtenida por medio de pruebas analíticas no invasivas (RX, UV) ha podido verificar la presencia de extensas áreas de repintes, así como otros añadidos y mutilaciones que se derivan de antiguas e intrusistas intervenciones. Conforme a esta base documental y científica, se ha desarrollado la intervención de la obra, especialmente teorizada y crítica ante la problemática de conservación o remoción de dichas adiciones, con el fin de reestablecer la unidad potencial de la imagen. Los protocolos de actuación se centran en tratamientos de fijación de los levantamientos de las capas pictóricas; la eliminación de suciedad superficial, barnices y repintes, con la consiguiente atención a las lagunas ocultas bajo estos sedimentos; así como la devolución del formato original por medio de la ampliación del soporte y su integración formal y cromática.
