La arquitectura de Vicente Sancho Fuster

Abstract

Las corrientes modernistas llegan a Valencia a través de arquitectos formados en la Escuela de Barcelona donde habían conocido el primer Modernismo. Una primera oleada está compuesta por los arquitectos que obtienen el título a finales del siglo XIX, representados por Francisco Mora Berenguer, Carlos Carbonell Pañella y Manuel Peris Ferrando, cuya obra manifiesta la influencia recibida del Modernismo catalán y también del Art Nouveau belga.

Posteriormente, una segunda generación, incluye los titulados en los primeros años del siglo XX, compuesta por Demetrio Ribes Marco, Vicente Ferrer Pérez y Vicente Sancho Fuster. Éstos desarrollaran su obra bajo la influencia de la Sezession y de Otto Wagner.

De éstos segundos, el menos conocido es Vicente Sancho Fuster puesto que únicamente desarrolló su profesión entre 1904, año en el que se graduó y 1910, año de su prematura muerte.

El desconocimiento de su obra no viene dado por su ausencia de interés, sino a la falta de datos precisos sobre los trabajos que realmente realizó. Apenas si existe una somera relación realizada por Francisco Mora y publicada en la revista ¿Arquitectura y construcción¿ nº 242 de septiembre de 1912; y algunas menciones puntuales en distintas publicaciones y tesis doctorales.

El presente trabajo pretende localizar las obras de Vicente Sancho a partir de las referencias que se hacen a las mismas en distintos textos encontrados así como comprobar la exactitud o inexactitud de estas referencias, llegando a conseguir un listado exhaustivo y documentado de las obras pertenecientes a este arquitecto.

Modernist arrives at Valencia through architects who studied in the School of Barcelona, where they had known the first Modernism. A first wave is integrated by the architects who obtain the title at the end of the 19th century, represented by Francisco Mora Berenguer, Carlos Carbonell Pañella y Manuel Peris Ferrando, whose work shows the influence received from Catalan Modernism and also from the Belgian Art Nouveau.

Subsequently, a second generation came. It was integraded by those who were graduated in the early years of the twentieth century, such as Demetrio Ribes Marco, Vicente Ferrer Pérez and Vicente Sancho Fuster. These developed their work under the influence of the Sezession and Otto Wagner.

Among these seconds, the less known is Vicente Sancho Fuster since he only developed his profession between 1904, the year in which he graduated and 1910, the year of his early death.

The lack of knowledge of his work is not due to lack of interest, but the lack of accurate information about the work he actually did. There is scarcely a brief relationship made by Francisco Mora and published in the magazine "Arquitectura y construcción" no. 242 of September 1912; and some specific mentions in different publications and doctoral theses.

The present work attemps the location of the works of Vicente Sancho from the references that are made to them in different writings and tries to verify the accuracy or inaccuracy of these references, obtaining an exhaustive list of the works belonging to this architect really documented.
