Aproximación arquitectónica y análisis estructural del Hotel Porta Fira proyectado por Toyo Ito

Abstract

[ES] La torre del Hotel Porta Fira (l'Hospitalet de Llobregat, Barcelona), galardonado por el Emporis Skyscraper Award 2010, es una de las grandes obras de Toyo Ito en España.

Tras haber reconocido que Antoni Gaudí fue una gran inspiración en toda su obra realizada en Barcelona, este esbelto edificio rojo ha marcado un antes y un después del skyline de Barcelona, además de albergar uno de los hoteles más ejemplares de la ciudad.

La torre del hotel junto a su hermana, la torre dedicada a oficinas, se caracterizan por la potente verticalidad del conjunto que va acompañada de prominentes elementos compositivos que las hacen únicas en su entorno. El edificio cuestión de este trabajo, cuenta además con una complejidad volumétrica debida a la forma de flor de loto que hace de la estructura un punto principal como recurso proyectual e intrínseco en el propósito arquitectónico.

Así pues, el presente trabajo tiene como fin el estudio y análisis de la Torre Porta Fira tras hacer un repaso por la biografía e influencias en la obra de Toyo Ito. La búsqueda de información para la descripción detallada de la estructura resultará en el desarrollo de un modelo informático E.F.2D a partir del programa de cálculo Architrave© que reflejará su comportamiento. Finalmente, se intentarán dar las soluciones necesarias para hacer de este singular y emblemático edificio una realidad tangible tanto constructiva como estructuralmente.

After acknowledging Antoni Gaudí as a great inspiration for his works located in Barcelona, this slender red building has made a real difference in Barcelona's skyline being also one of the most exemplary hotels of the city.

The hotel tower along with his brother, the tower meant for offices, are defined by an utmost verticality which pairs with distinctive compositional elements that make them both unique in their surroundings. This way, the building matter of this work, is added an extra volumetric complexity because of the lotus flower form which makes the structure a principal point as a designing and innate resource in the architectural agenda.

Therefore, the following document will embody the study and analysis of the Porta Fira Hotel tower after taking a look into the biography and influences in Toyo Ito's works. Data gathering for a detailed structure description will result in the creation of an E.F.2D structural model thanks to the estimation software Architrave© which will later reveal the behaviour of said structure. Finally, necessary solutions will be taken to make this singular and emblematic building a tangible reality not only constructive but also structural wise.
