Reutilización de edificios históricos para fortalecer el turismo cultural: Castillo del Cerro, San Cristóbal

Abstract

[ES] San Cristóbal, denominada "Ciudad Benemérita", es la cuna de la Constitución Dominicana y el lugar de nacimiento del dictador Rafael L. Trujillo. Estas características la hacen poseedora de un acervo cultural de gran valor, legado de la época de la dictadura. Este legado, representa un importante patrimonio de esta provincia de la República Dominicana que puede ser la base de un turismo cultural en la zona sur del país, que hoy solo ofrece turismo de sol y playa.

La propuesta a desarrollar evalúa la reutilización de un modelo de arquitectura moderna del siglo XX. Se centra en una residencia construida por el arquitecto Henry Gazón Bona para el dictador en su ciudad natal San Cristóbal, conocida como el Castillo del Cerro, enclavado en la cima de una alta colina desde donde se divisa un majestuoso panorama. Consta de cuatro niveles y su atractivo radica en la opulencia en sus detalles artísticos interiores que lo bautizan como Casa de Orates. Desde su construcción no se le ha dado uso, pese a las gestiones que han sido realizadas con este propósito.

El principal problema de este singular edificio es la falta de aprecio de la población por el mismo, sumado a la falta de inversión pública. A esto hay que añadir, la regulación ineficaz de las normativas que protegen el patrimonio dominicano. Por esto se plantea una puesta en valor del edificio para que facilite una dinamización económica sobre la base del turismo cultural. Así se propone una serie de estrategias que buscan la conservación y promoción de los valores que hacen al sitio importante y significativo. Con ello se conseguirá promover el respeto y protección del patrimonio existente en el municipio de San Cristóbal como parte de nuestra identidad heredada, y que debe estar ligada a las generaciones venideras. Esta propuesta podría servir como modelo para ejecutarse en los demás elementos patrimoniales del municipio, con la premisa de que la sociedad se apropie de su patrimonio.

[EN] San Cristobal, named "Meritorious City", is the heart of the Dominican Constitution and the birthplace of Dictator Rafael L. Trujillo. These Characteristics make it the possessor of a cultural heritage of great value, legacy of the era of the dictatorship. This legacy represents an important patrimony of this province of the Dominican Republic that could be the basis of a cultural tourism in the southern part of the country, which today offers only sun and beach tourism. The proposal to develop evaluates the reuse of a modern architecture model of the twentieth century. It focuses on a residence built for the dictator in his hometown of San Cristobal, known as the ¿Castillo del Cerro¿, nestled on the top of a high hill from where you can overlook a majestic panorama. It consists of four levels and its attractiveness lies in the opulence in its interior details that baptize it as "Casa de Orates¿. Since its construction, it has not been used, despite the efforts that have been made for this purpose. The main problem of this singular building is the lack of appreciation from the population itself, added to the lack of public investment. To this we must add, the inefficient regulation of the regulations that protect the Dominican patrimony. By this poses a placing in value of the building to facilitate an economic dynamization on the basis of cultural tourism. This way it proposes a series of strategies that seek the conservation and promotion of the values that make the site important and significant. This will promote the respect and protection of the existing patrimony in the municipality of San Cristóbal as part of our inherited identity, and that must be linked to the future generations. This proposal could serve as a model for executing in the other patrimonial elements of the municipality, with the premise that the society is take of its patrimony.
