La Tomatina de Buñol. Internacionalización de una fiesta popular

Abstract

[EN] La Tomatina, from Buñol is Spain¿s most international festival, it attracts visitors and tourists from around the world. This article analyses the origins of the festivity, in the context of the dictatorship of General Franco, as well as its evolution in the Spanish democratic government are analyzed. The goal is to understand how this festival has reached such great media coverage, due to the characteristics of the Tomatina, where the playful and hedonistic connotations are relevant.

[ES] La Tomatina de Buñol, el evento popular más internacional de España, atrae a visitantes y turistas de todo el mundo. En el presente artículo se analizan sus origenes, en el contexto de la dictadura del general Franco, así como su evolución en el gobierno democrático español. El objetivo consiste en entender de qué manera esta fiesta popular ha alcanzado el impacto mediático que tiene. Esto se explica por las mismas características de la Tomatina, donde las connotaciones lúdicas y hedonistas son relevantes.
