[EN] The project summarizes the contribution as an individual researcher to the Aerodynamic Deorbit Experiment (ADE) developed by Purdue University, California Polytechnic State University and the Georgia Institute of Technology. ADE consists of a 1U CubeSat that will be launched in 2020 in a geosynchronous transfer orbit with perigee/apogee altitudes of 185km/35786 km. The objective of the experiment is to provide flight qualification and characterize the performance of a deployable drag sail device to improve (shorten) the deorbit time of small satellites. The demonstration of this drag sail concept will provide an option for satellite operators to deorbit small satellites and reduce the impact of space operations in orbital debris. The project is focused on my one-semester contribution to ADE, on the areas of Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) software development, telecommunications testing and telemetry beacon coding. For each of these areas, I developed a Test Readiness Review (TRR) that is validated by the project manager to approve the transition into the Integration & Testing phase of the ADE mission. The IMU software development consists in coding the interface between the IMU device and the Flight Software to extract the sensor measurements. This work has required weekly communication with the California Polytechnic State University PolySat team, which has developed and demonstrated in multiple missions the CubeSat Flight Software. To validate the capabilities of the Purdue Tracking Station, the telecommunication test is required. The objective of this test is to stablish a bi-directional communication between the CubeSat radio and the Purdue Ground Station to obtain the maximum communication range. The signal path loss from space is simulated with signal attenuators and the equivalent range is calculated. Finally, the development of a beacon code relates the two areas exposed since it will be used to downlink the telemetry data from the IMU to the Ground Station. Overall, this bachelor s thesis aims to introduce the Aerodynamic Deorbit Experiment to the reader and how my contribution has impacted the progress of the mission.
