| es_ES |
dc.description.abstract | [EN] Poly(glycerol sebacate) (PGS) is an elastomeric biomaterial, which is obtained from glycerol and sebacic acid through a condensation polymerization reaction, delivering water molecules as a reaction product. This material offers a great biocompatibility and biodegradation, so the study of its molecular architecture is very interesting in the context of biomedicine. Synthesis of poly(glycerol sebacate) consists of three stages: the prepolymerization stage, where the chains initially grow more or less branched until the materials gels due to the formation of a polymeric network due to the glycerol trifunctionality, the reaction proceeds in a state solid in the curing stage and ends with a washing stage. However, studies conducted so far have focused on the influence of PGS synthesis parameters during the curing stage on the final properties of the material. Therefore, in this project it is proposed to carry out the study of the synthesis conditions during the first stage of prepolymerization since it could allow complementing the existing information, thus being able to predict the properties of the final material. It is proposed, therefore, to study the molecular architecture of polyglycerol sebacate during the first stage of prepolymerization through of different analytical techniques that, together, allow to predict how the molecular structure of the PGS progress throughout its first stage of synthesis. So, will be determined the evolution of the functional groups formed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), the kinetics of the reaction by titration of carboxyl groups, as well as the distribution of molecular weights by gel permeation chromatography (GPC). In parallel, the reactivity of glycerol hydroxyl groups has been studied by analyzing the rheological behavior of two bifunctional homologous monomers of glycerol, these are, propylene glycol and 1,3-propanediol, since having a group -OH less than glycerol, these monomers will not be able to give rise to crosslinks in the network. On the other hand, most studies on the PGS synthesis process have determined that during this is produced a significant loss of glycerol by evaporation, and, consequently, the molar ratio of monomers varies considerably during the synthesis. Therefore, it is intended to reduce this effect by carrying out the reaction by a gradual supply of glycerol. In addition, the mass loss that occurs during the prepolymerization of PGS has been determined by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), which will allow to determine the minimum amount of glycerol that is lost by evaporation during conventional PGS synthesis. | es_ES |
