La plataforma Salvem El Cabanyal: doce años de lucha ciudadana

Abstract

[ES] El barrio del Cabanyal es un Conjunto Histórico Protegido de la ciudad de Valencia, declarado Bien de Interés Cultural en 1993. Desde 1998 el barrio está amenazado por un proyecto municipal que pretende ampliar una avenida que atraviesa su parte central. La plataforma Salvem el Cabanyal se crea para oponerse a este plan: consideramos que el resultado de partir un Conjunto Histórico en dos mitades no son dos medios Conjuntos Históricos, sino la destrucción del patrimonio de todos. Tras una introducción histórica para familiarizar al lector con el barrio, el artículo explica la estructura organizativa de la plataforma y describe sus principales acciones legales, de difusión y de sociología participativa, para terminar con una reflexión sobre el momento actual.

[EN] El Cabanyal is a protected neighbourhood of the city of Valencia, which was declared as a Cultural Interest Property in 1993 under the typology of Historic Quarter. Since 1998, a municipal project threatens to extend an avenue through the middle of this neighbourhood. ¿Salvem el Cabanyal¿ platform is created as an opposition to this plan: we believe that the result from dividing a historical neighbourhood into two halves is not having two historic areas, but the destruction of our heritage. After a historical introduction to familiarize the reader with the neighborhood, this article explains the organizational structure of the platform and describes its major legal actions, means of diffusion and participative sociology, ending with a reflection exercise about the present situation.
