Un nuevo papel para los viejos y grandes contenedores urbanos

Abstract

[ES] Cada vez son más los problemas urbanísticos en las ciudades y mayores las dificultades para resolverlos. Para afrontarlos con éxito se debe entender la sociedad y su diversidad de formas de vida, culturas, intereses y conexiones. Por otra parte, los edificios viejos se han estado infravalorado durante mucho tiempo, comprendiendo en los últimos años que son parte fundamental de la cultura y la sociedad, restaurándolos y reintegrándolos en el conjunto de la ciudad. Partiendo de modelos de referencia del urbanismo, la restauración y la arquitectura en general (Jacobs, Gehl, etc.), el presente trabajo se centra en estudiar los problemas que han ido apareciendo en estos edificios de cierta edad y en su relación con la ciudad, guiados por el caso de la ciudad de Valencia. Se analizarán los ejemplos seleccionados, reflexionando sobre la idoneidad o no de la solución adoptada en cada caso.

[EN] Nowadays, urban problems in cities are becoming more and more frequent, as well as greater are the difficulties to solve them. To deal with these problems successfully, the society and its diversity of life forms, such as the different cultures, interests and connections, should be understood. On the other hand, old buildings have been undervalued for a long time, but recently have been conceived as a fundamental part of the present of the culture and society. Consequently, these buildings have been restored and reintegrated into the whole of the city. On the basis of reference models of urbanism, restoration and architecture in general terms (Jacobs, Gehl, etc), the present work focuses on studying the problems that have been arising in these buildings over certain age, and in their connection with the city, guided by the situation of Valencia city. Then, the selected examples will be analyzed reflecting on the adequacy of the solution that could be adopted in each case.
