Dos concepciones distintas del enterramiento: el cementerio nórdico y el cementerio mediterráneo

Abstract

[ES] Se propone el análisis comparado de dos tipologías de cementerio distintas: el cementerio nórdico y el mediterráneo. Para ello, se analizarán dos obras referentes de la arquitectura del siglo XX: el Cementerio del Bosque de Estocolmo de Asplund y Lewerentz, y el Cementerio de Módena de Aldo Rossi. De esta forma, se pretende analizar y comparar, no sólo los distintos recursos y estrategias proyectuales en ambas obras, sino también la significación y concepción que de la muerte se hace en cada una de las dos culturas, haciendo hincapié en las distintas formas de entender la idea monumentalidad y la relación con el entorno. Se establecerán, por tanto, dos visiones contrapuestas del espacio del cementerio: por un lado, una comprensión existencialista llevará a situar el enterramiento en relación con la naturaleza y el paisaje; mientras que, por otro lado, un entendimiento derivado del materialismo dialéctico, comprenderá el cementerio desde su dimensión social y urbana.

[EN] The comparative analysis of two different cemetery types is proposed: the Nordic and the Mediterranean cemetery. For this purpose, two reference works of twentieth century architecture will be analyzed: the Stockholm Cemetery by Asplund and Lewerentz, and the Modena Cemetery by Aldo Rossi. In this way, it is intended to analyze and compare, not only the different resources and design strategies in both works, but also the significance and conception about death in each of the two cultures, emphasizing the different ways of understanding the idea of monumentality and the relationship with the environment. Two opposing visions of the cemetery space will be established: on the one hand, an existentialist understanding will lead to placing the burial in relation to nature and landscape; while, on the other hand, an understanding derived from dialectical materialism, will include the cemetery from its social and urban dimension.
