Mediterranean coast, drifting territory: architecture with nature, humans and time

Abstract

[ES] La idea principal del presente proyecto es reconsiderar cómo la arquitectura puede redefinir el espacio en relación a la actividad humana, el comportamiento de la naturaleza y el tiempo. Tras la modernización, espacios designados al ser humano han ido separándose de su entorno originario, distanciándose así de ambientes naturales y del mundo animal. Con la introducción del sistema capitalista, el crecimiento económico ha tomado importancia, trayendo como consecuencia el desarrollo de las ciudades, y la expansión de un entorno conveniente para el ser humano. Mientras tanto, dada la preocupación creciente por la destrucción del medio ambiente y la escasez de recursos en los últimos años, el concepto de desarrollo sostenible aparece. La puesta en práctica de éste, cuenta con numerosos intentos en diversos campos, cuestión que es foco de atención del presente. En este proyecto, consideramos el término 'desarrollo' de un ambiente como el crecimiento completo del entorno en su proyección futura. Se propone una estrategia donde el comportamiento de la naturaleza, los animales y las actividades humanas coexistan. La propuesta formal consiste en un camino circular en el Parque Natural del Saler. Paseando por este círculo, el visitante puede experimentar el paisaje en un ambiente integrado generado gracias a la colaboración de la flora, fauna y el ser humano. Este camino cuenta con una plataforma que flota sobre el agu y que funciona como un sistema para la recuperación natural. Se implantan actividades para el ser humano: los visitantes pueden estar y pasar tiempo en esta plataforma, llegando a la realización de su condición natural como uno de los elementos del paisaje, y también parte del ambiente natural. El Parque Natural del Saler contaba con un plan de desarrollo urbano, del cual aún se pueden observar algunos restos de edificios e infraestructuras frutos del mismo. La plataforma se sitúa en el lago, el cual se crea de forma artificial para esta urbanización. El propósito de este proyecto es pensar sobre la posibilidad de desarrollo hacia un futuro basado en el pasado, sin negarlo ni desprestigiarlo. Es de crucial importancia reflexionar sobre los espacios y elementos que configuran las circulaciones, con el objetivo de permitir al territorio de naturaleza, al ser humano y al tiempo fluir, a través de la reutilización de un espacio perteneciente a las trazas del pasado desarrollo urbano y superponiendo al medio ambiente unas nuevas formas inspiradas en la naturaleza.

[EN] In this project, the main idea is to explore and reconsider how architecture can redefine space in the relationship of human activity, nature behavior and time. After the modernization, spaces designated for humans have started to separate from their natural environment, taking distance from nature and animal ambiences. With the introduction of the capitalist system, economic growth has gained in importance, the development of the cities means the expansion of the convenient environment for the human beings as a result. Meanwhile, in a growing concern about the environmental destruction and the deficiency of resources that appeared during the last years, the concept of sustainable development came out, various attempt in many field to put this concept into practice are getting more and more attention. While development of this project, we consider the term development as the growth of an entire environment towards the future. We propose a strategy for the development of natural environment where the behavior of nature, animals and human activities coexist. The formal proposal consists on a circular walkway in El Saler Natural Park. By walking in this circle, the visitor can experience the landscape in an integrated environment created through the collaboration of nature, animals and human beings. In this walkway there is a platform floating on the water, which works as a core system for natural recovery. Programs of activities for human beings have been implanted; visitors can stay and spend time on this platform, come to the realization of their natural condition as one of the elements in the landscape, and also a part of the entire flow of the natural environment. In El Saler Natural Park, there was an urban development plan and some traces of the infrastructures and buildings infrastructures can still be seen. The platform is located in the lake, which is also artificially created for this urbanization. The purpose of this project is to think about the possibility of development to the future based on the past without neglecting or denying it, and also think about these kind of spaces that is composed with the circulation of various elements, in attempt of letting the territory of nature, human and time drift, through creating the space reusing these traces of past urban development and overlapping the environment with forms traced from nature.
