[EN] Fractures are one of the most frequent causes of death or disability, especially in low and middle-income countries, where there is a notable lack of resources and knowledge. Nowadays, various systems to immobilize fractures exists, all of them manufactured with materials designed for that purpose, but that have a high cost.
To date, there is no research focused on improving this situation for the lowest ncome countries. Therefore, the aim of this research was to carry out a study in search of an effective design that would meet all the needs so far ignored.
To this end, the most important question to answer is: will it be possible to develop an effective immobilization splint made of materials available in these low-income countries? From this, several questions about the methods to be used can be extended: Will it be possible to use particle or layer jamming for this purpose? What kind of material will be the most effective? All these questions are answered through the experimental analysis carried out during this project.
These analyses resulted that the more density of the material used in particle and layer jamming, the better stiffness. But also, it turned out that it was impossible to achieve a functional splint only manufactured with particle jamming, that is why it was decided to combine particle jamming with another material to achieve the demanded requirements.
