| es_ES |
dc.description.abstract | [EN] The present work deals with the study and analysis of the remains of the red crosses existing in the fourteenth-century arcosolio attached to the exit door to the southern courtyard of the Church of San Juan del Hospital, in the street Trinquete de Caballeros of the City of Valencia. The name of this architectural complex evokes the time of the Crusades, when the religious and military institution of St. John of Jerusalem was founded. The Church of San Juan del Hospital began to be built in 1238, after the reconquest of Valencia. The historical complex included a temple, a hospital, the convent house, and a cemetery. However, since then it has undergone numerous stylistic and architectural transformations. The Church of San Juan del Hospital, besides being the vestige of the Gothic mural painting of the Valencian Community, is also the imprint of the "Sovereign Military and Hospital Order of Saint John of Jerusalem, Rhodes and Malta". The arcosolio consists of an arch that houses an open sepulcher in the wall. The hospital cemetery preserves nine of these burials belonging to noble or guild families, becoming the only medieval urban cemetery preserved today. With the accomplishment of this study it is tried to obtain the analysis of the fragments of the red crosses painted inside the arcosolio. Through photographic documentation, noninvasive reseach techniques, and visual inspection. Trying to present a possible intervention for its Conservation and Restoration. | es_ES |
