SECUENCIAS GRÁFICAS DEL PUENTE DEL REAL DE VALENCIA ENTRE LOS SIGLOS XVI Y XXI

Abstract

[EN] The lack of direct sources of textual documentation about Puente del Real, one of the city’s oldest bridges (the present-day bridge dates from 1599), has obliged research into its constructive and historical evolution to study graphic sources from contemporary periods to confirm its different phases. This entailed studying plans of the city, prints, etchings, paintings and photos produced over the years. The three-dimensional images of the bridge in all these documents, including the topographical plans, have made it possible to determine the true appearance of the different elements it has featured over time. The basic aim of this research is to portray the life of the bridge known as Puente del Real. All the visual and written data gathered was compiled in a series of sequential images making the bridge’s historiography easier to understand. To do so, a series of infographics was produced1 of the different modifications undergone by the bridge. These infographics demonstrate the importance of graphic representation in architectural research: not only as regards geometry and metrics, but also its history, the analysis of its construction, ornamentation and modifications. Images make it possible to portray the biography of an architectonic element.

[ES] Siendo uno de los puentes más antiguos de la ciudad, (el actual puente del Real data de 1599) cuenta con escasas fuentes directas de documentación escrita. Para la investigación de su evolución histórico-constructiva se hace necesario el estudio de fuentes gráficas coetáneas que ratifiquen las diferentes etapas que ha tenido. Para ello se han consultado planos de la ciudad, grabados, litografías, pinturas y fotografías realizados a lo largo de la historia. Todos estos documentos, incluidos los planos topográficos, presentan imágenes del puente en tres dimensiones que permiten establecer la apariencia real de los diferentes elementos que han ido conformándolo. El objetivo fundamental de esta investigación ha sido la representación de la vida del Puente del Real. Todos los datos obtenidos, tanto gráficos como escritos, se han plasmado en una serie de secuencias gráficas que facilitan la lectura de la historiografía del puente. Para ello se han elaborado diferentes infografías 1 coincidentes con las diversas variaciones que el puente ha sufrido. Éstas constatan la importancia que la representación gráfica tiene en la investigación de la arquitectura, no sólo de su geometría o de su métrica, sino de su historia, análisis constructivo, ornamentación o intervenciones. A través de la imagen es posible representar la biografía de un elemento arquitectónico.
