Limen. Video ensayo sobre los límites del silencio

Abstract

[ES] Limen es un proyecto de investigación y práctica artística que consiste en la realización de un video ensayo que plantea el establecimiento de una analogía entre la mafia siciliana y su manera de actuar durante el periodo de crisis sanitaria provocada por el Covid-19. Se trata de una investigación cualitativa y deductiva donde la teoría y la práctica se han retroalimentado y modificado mutuamente. La práctica artística consiste en un proyecto audiovisual cuya estructura posee una narración diegética y extradiegética que sirve como hilo conductor. Para su realización se profundiza e investiga a partir de documentos y vídeos. Todo el proyecto es concebido con un enfoque distante, utilizando vídeos realizados por personas que estaban cumpliendo su cuarentena en la ciudad de Palermo durante la crisis sanitaria. La mayor parte de los elementos visuales corresponden a grabaciones de pantalla del ordenador donde se intenta ubicar cada uno de estos vídeos a través de Google Maps, por un lado, y establecer semejanzas entre estos y determinadas figuras retóricas que representen visualmente el contexto social, por otro. El tema principal del proyecto es el silencio, la omertà : todos conocen las reglas de un juego que parece no existir y viven con ellas cada día, prefiriendo no hablar y fingir que no existe la mafia. Siendo así, el objetivo del proyecto es explicar algunos de los mecanismos que forman parte de la sociedad siciliana actual, acercándose a la realidad de forma critica mediante escenas comunes. La motivación principal detrás de la elección del tema es la necesidad de definir visualmente conceptos íntimos y el deseo de tomar distancia hacia un sistema de corrupción que flota constantemente en el aire de la Sicilia, dando a entender que, en cierto modo, existe en todas partes.

[EN] Limen is a research and artistic practice project that consists in the realization of a video essay, in which it will propose the establishment of an analogy between the Sicilian mafia and its way of acting during a period of sanitary crisis, as it was the Covid-19. Covering these lines of study, it is a qualitative and deductive research where theory and practice have been mutually fed and modified.

The artistic practice will consist of carrying out an audiovisual project whose structure will have a diegetic and extra-diegetic narration that will serve as a thread. To do this we will deepen and investigate from documents, videos recorded by people in the streets of Palermo. Most of the visual elements will be computer screen recordings, where we will try to locate each of the videos through Google Maps. Everything will be narrated with a physically distant approach, using videos made by people who were doing their quarantine in the city of Palermo during the health crisis. We will try to establish similarities with rhetorical figures as records to visually represent the social context.

The main theme in the analysis is going to be silence, omertá, everyone knows the rules of a game that seems not to exist and live together with them every day, preferring not to talk and pretend that no mafia exists. The aim would be to explain some of the mechanisms that are part of the current Sicilian society, approaching reality in a critical way, recording common scenes. The main motivation for dealing with this topic is the need to define close concepts and the desire to move away from this system of corruption that constantly floats in the air of Sicily, letting it be understood that, in some way, anywhere there is a mafia.
