Tórtola Valencia, la performer: sus acciones entre la danza y la performance fuera del escenario

Abstract

[ES] En este artículo proponemos recuperar la figura de la misteriosa bailarina Tórtola Valencia en tanto sujeto-performer que inserta en la vida cotidiana una danza (proto)performática. De manera alternativa a las danzas realizadas en los escenarios -La Maja, (Albe¿niz) La Danza de la gitana descalza (Saint-Saëns), La Danza de Anitra (Grieg), La Marcha Fu¿nebre (Chopin), La Danza de los gnomos (Grieg), La danza de la serpiente (Delibes), La Danza del incienso (Buccalossi) o La Danza A¿rabe (Tchaikovsky), entre otras-, proponemos rescatar un conjunto de danzas performáticas derivadas de una actitud transgresora, que Tórtola realizó de forma espontánea fuera del escenario. Con sus acciones, Tórtola convirtió espacios como barcos, playas, cementerios o un campo de batalla en improvisados teatros donde llevar a cabo una comprensión de la vida como obra de arte, adelantándose en muchos casos a prácticas desarrolladas posteriormente y situadas entre el arte de la performance y la danza contemporánea.

[EN] The aim of this paper is to highlight the figure of the mysterious dancer Tórtola Valencia as a person-performer who inserts a (proto)performatic dance into everyday life. As an alternative to the dances performed on the stages -La Maja (Albéniz), The Dance of the Barefoot Gypsy (Saint-Saëns), The Dance of Anitra (Grieg), The Funeral March (Chopin), The Dance of the gnomes (Grieg), The Dance of the Serpent (Delibes), The Dance of the Incense (Buccalossi) or The Arab Dance (Tchaikovsky), among others-, we propose to rescue a set of alternative dances derived from a transgressor attitude, which Tortola performed spontaneously, off the stage. With his actions, Tórtola turned spaces like ships, beaches, cemeteries or a battlefield into improvised theatres where to carry out an understanding of life as a piece of art, frequently anticipating practices developed later and located between the art of performance and contemporary dance.
