| es_ES |
dc.description.abstract | [EN] Ships are one of the most important means of transport in human history and the backbone of global trade. Despite being the most efficient mode of commercial transport in terms of CO2 emissions per tonne of cargo carried, shipping has a significant environmental impact. Therefore, emissions from the shipping sector must be decreased through a combination of eco-friendly technologies and energy-efficient systems, which help reduce air pollution and climate change impacts. This thesis aims to study the use of microgrids as a renewable energy option for ships. This means investigating possible configurations of energy system based on renewable energy technology that allow ships for a durable traveling. In order to fulfil this, the microgrid concept and its related challenges have been introduced, as well as a review on distributed generation and renewable energy sources. Besides, research on distributed generation and renewable energy sources applied on ships has been carried out, and existing energy system models for real ships have been reviewed. Finally, the implementation of some type of renewable technology explained in the thesis on a small recreational boat and a large cargo vessel has been proposed. | es_ES |
