Pintando el otro: La atracción innata hacia lo exotico

Abstract

[ES] Este proyecto se resume en una serie de pinturas, con la que se persigue explorar posibilidades estéticas con nuevas técnicas formales. A través de la pintura, este proyecto busca acercar estilos de vida muy lejanos al privilegiado ojo occidental. Presentando escenas costumbristas cargadas de simbolismo, misticismo e identidad, se muestra la imagen de una parte de la humanidad muchas veces ignorada, cuando no amenazada, con la intención de reivindicar y apreciar la riqueza de la cultura humana. En paralelo, se llevará a cabo una investigación con la que se cuestionará las razones detrás de la elección conceptual, además del propio derecho a usar la imagen de exotismo y otredad en el arte. Mediante un recorrido socio-histórico de la relación entre occidente y no occidente, se hará frente a lo que supone dichas representaciones, exponiendo un debate entre prejuicios, viejas cicatrices y los nuevos medios de comunicación que nos ofrece el frenesí del siglo XXI.

[EN] This project can be summarized in a series of paintings, in which I explore the new style possibilities offered by recently recovered mediums Through painting, this project seeks to bring very different lifestyles closer to the privileged western eye. Presenting traditional scenes loaded with symbolism, mysticism and identity, and showing that way an image of humanity often ignored and threatened, with the intention of claiming and appreciating the richness of human culture. In parallel, an investigation will be carried out that will question the reasons behind the conceptual choice and even the right to use the image of exoticism and "otherness" in art. Through a cut short socio-historical journey of the relationship between the West and the non-West, we will face what these representations entail nowadays, exposing a debate between prejudices, old scars and the new social media communication offered by the 21st century.
